DIY Canvas Art
I am sloooowly working on ‘refreshing‘ our living room. Some of the major items on the to-do list for this room have been checked off: walls and baseboards have been painted and a much needed piece of furniture has been purchased. Our living room is pretty much void of everything other than the essentials; seating, side table and a TV. So things like decorative accessories and decor have to be purchased on the cheap or DIY’d. Yay for me because I really enjoy trying to make things myself.
This afternoon I decided to get artsy and work on a little project for one of my walls using the colors I plan to use throughout the room. The best part of this little project is I already had everything at home.
I only had the basic colors sitting around so I had to mix my own which is always fun. First I started off with a little Teal for the base. Teal has become one of my favorite colors. Looooove it.
Next I started laying the other colors on top and blending them into each other using my Purdy brush and a little water.
Once I was happy with the blending I went back in to add a little bit of detail. My hands are WAY too shaky too freehand semi-straight lines with a paintbrush so I grabbed a piece of corrugated cardboard to help steady my hand. I didn’t want it to be a perfect fine line so I used a small angled brush and varied the angle and pressure as I drew across the canvas. Perfect!
I also painted the sides of the canvas black varying pressure as well.
Because it is a flat canvas board I couldn’t think of many ways to hang it other than gluing a picture hanger to the back of it or framing it, which I may consider doing sometime down the road but for now I went with my drill and some twine. And there’s a sneak peek of the new wall color.
This part of the wall was in major need of color and something decorative. Thankfully I was able to create something that I love and best of all it was free!
Yes the generic picture hooks I’m using are fugly as hell but I just couldn’t wait to hang them. I’m hoping to find some decorate picture hangers like these at Home Depot or Lowes.

Love the wall art! I see wall art similar to these at Kohl’s or Gordmans and they can be pretty pricy. I may just have to try something like this:)
Thanks Mindy. And that’s why I decided to make it myself. 1 art can be really pricey and 2. finding the right colors isn’t always easy. Thanks for stopping in.
